A friend gave me a computer, a laptop. There were problems associated with it, over-heating with occasional fan failure. After about a month, the fan finally shut down, the heat built up and the computer totally stopped working.

Well, I knew I was going to have problems. After all I received the laptop in give away conditions. So I began searching the web for a solution. Most people would take it to a computer repair person. I can’t afford that solution, even were I to find someone who would be willing to take on the job. I suspect the repair costs would exceed the value of the computer. Not too many repair experts are willing to fix a computer beyond the price they might hope to sell it for, should the customer decline the repair costs.

Being an older laptop and the fact that they are no longer in business, I ran into considerable challenges searching for a replacement fan. Simply no parts on the market. Which leaves me in the position where I either fix it or not. Added into the mix is another interesting fact, I’ve never done this before.

If I fail, I guess I’m in no worse a situation. I began disassembly last night. Wish me luck, or not; I’m pretty sure I’ll be in no worse a situation. Who knows? Maybe I’ll beat the odds.
